This of course depends on the idea of economic benefits trickling down the
poor unhindered, to make them stop having so many children. Clearly, the
poorest in India are not part of the IT sector, and are unlikely to be for
quite some time, given India's sparse infrastructure.
Again, I think that EQ is ultimately the common factor that underlies
impoverishment not just of individuals, but also entire sections of society,
and finally entire societies and even regions.
If we look at why the nations of the North have consistently been able to
maintain lower populations, while the nations of the South consistently
adopted socialism and suffered high population growth, I think there is a
clear gap. Even the highly socialist USSR did not suffer from the explosive
population growth that India has.
