Pakistan's military regime begins nuclearisation of its Navy

Pakistan has initiated the process of nuclearisation of the country's
naval
fleet keeping in view the "emerging threats from the Indian naval
build-up"
and the restricted ability of its resource-starved Navy, a senior navy
official said.

"In order to counter the Indian naval might, Pakistan has been working
on a
plan to give nuclear teeth to the Pakistan Navy," an Admiral told
reporters
here.
He refused to give the details of the nuclear weapon system being
developed,
saying "for the countrymen, it should be enough to know that the
country's
defence is impregnable and in secured hands."

Prior to a five-day media workshop for journalists in Karachi, the
Admiral
said the Pakistan Navy had developed into "a small but effective and
balanced service" comprising a fleet of ships, aircraft, and shore units

capable of providing necessary logistic support, docking, and repair
facilities and a complex of training institutions.

The Pakistan Navy has a variety of platforms including various type of
ships, submarines and aircraft," he added.
